LEICA LEITZ WETZLAR TELE-ELMAR-M 1:4/135mm 11851 VERSION I BLACK M8 M9 M240 M10. Good "user" condition, vintage 1972 Leica Leitz Wetzlar Tele-Elmar-M 1:4/135mm lens, Leitz code 11851, made in Germany. Please note that this lens DOES NOT come with the lens hood, caps and bubble case shown in some of the images. Only a generic rear cap and a a Marumi E39 yellow filter are included with the lens.
This lens is a "user", and it shows, however it is optically and mechanically sounds and performs as it should. It was also just serviced last month. Glass is nice, and besides some inevitable amount of dust, it shows no scratches, no fungus, and no haze. Blades are good and clean. The Tele-Elmar is a shorter lens, as it is of true telephoto construction.
Around 1964 it seems that Leitz gradually changed to this type of design as the 90mm became a telephoto construction. It is a five element, three group construction and closely related to the companion lens, the Elmarit-M 135mm f/2.8. The lens has a lenght from bayonet flange to front lens of 109mm and is mildly telephoto design. It is a truly excellent lens, that from the start of production would have challenged the emulsions of those days. It came as a surprise that Leica re-introduced the 135mm in a completely new outward design, but with the same optical cell. The literature described the optical performance as'unsurpassed' which was true at that moment.
Only the current APO-Telyt 135mm f/3.4 delivers even more image quality. Please also check my other items for sale.
